The impact of comorbidities in bronchiectasis has been poorly understood until now. A group of EMBARC investigators have highlighted the key roles and therefore the impact multimorbidity has on disease severity and mortality. From these findings the group developed the Bronchiectasis Aetiology Comorbidity Index (BACI) which has proved successful in quantifying and prioritising comorbidities in bronchiectasis patients.
